GETTING TO THE NELSON MANDELA MUSEUM

BY AIR: The main regional airport is East London Airport that is accessible from most major airports. Mthatha is a three-hour drive from East London.

BY ROAD: The Nelson Mandela Museum is located on the N2 and is a natural stopover between major centres. It incorporates the Sunshine Route to Durban and the magnificent Wild Coast Route. It is the gateway to the Wild Coast. From Johannesburg, it incorporates the Battlefields route, the Karoo heartland and the Wild Coast route.

  1. NELSON MANDELA COMIC EXHIBITION at the NELSON MANDELA MUSEUM, BHUNGA BUILDING 

The Nelson Mandela Comic Exhibition was amongst an array of fun and educational activities for children and youth in line with its objectives to be an institution of thought and learning which the museum launched. It used to be housed at the Nelson Mandela Youth and Heritage Center, Qunu now it forms part of the exhibitions found at the recently refurbished Bhunga Building. 

  1. Mandela & Luthuli In Conversation Exhibition (BHUNGA BUILDING, MTHATHA)

Mandela and Luthuli in Conversation is a thought-provoking exhibition that encourages debate. It is suitable for youth and adult audiences, and is a fulfilling, refreshing and recommitting experience inspired by the two Nobel Peace winners and other leaders.

A collaboration between the Nelson Mandela Museum and the Chief Luthuli Museum in Stanger, the Nelson Mandela and Luthuli in Conversation exhibition celebrates the legacy of these two South African struggle legends and Nobel Prize Laureates.

3. THE MEANING OF MANDELA (BHUNGA BUILDING, MTHATHA)

This exhibition, originally curated by the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, explores the life and times of Nelson Mandela and reveals insights into the man rarely seen before in the public domain.
