The Nelson Mandela Museum and the National Museums of Kenya will host and International Museum Summit on the 10th of February in Mthatha to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Nelson Mandela ‘s release from prison. The summit is designed and structured to deal with transformation questions, socio-economic and cultural challenges that are facing institutions of this nature and the civil society at large. The summit will draw the attention of heritage and museum practitioners across the globe to deliberate on issues not only affecting this museum but also the civil society and the museums and heritage practitioners.
Nelson Mandela was released from prison on the 11th of February 1990 and the Nelson Mandela Museum in partnership with Drakenstein Correctional Services, Robben Island Museum and Incarceration Nations Network will also celebrate the release in a form of a debate and align it to the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha.
